What to do, what to do. Welcome to the time of year when everything you look forward to in the sports world is put on hold. No more football games to take in, collegiate or professional, as the kings of the gridiron have packed their bags and have moved on to "greener" pasture (see: "tee times"). MLB has been on hiatus for months but the hot stove has been able to keep us nice and warm all winter long. That changed just a few days ago when the last of the big boys signed with the lowly tigers, leaving us with only the countdown to pitchers and catchers. NBA, well, ummmmm, let's face it - only hockey, which has "melted away" any chance of a season, is harder to watch then a bunch of hip hop wanna-be thugs doing anything they can to get on the highlight reel (all without playing anything that resembles actual basketball). Of course, there is college hoops which many claim to be the best of all sports. While I am a big college hoops fan and the tourney is right around the corner, it just isn't the same for those of us "state schoolers" that view a successful hoops season as one where our team shows up on the ticker (hey mike - let's meet up at the bar. I think the UB/Kent St. score will be displayed tonight. Finally some real national coverage).
The most anticipated part of my day has now been relegated to searching the AP wire for any article, tidbit, headline, joke, etc. that even mentions the Mets. While the AP has been overflowing with Mets magic ever since Omar "i love latinos" Minaya was brought in to run the ship, the pool of reading material has dwindled down to nothing. Leaving me scrambling for something, anything, to get me through the day. I have already gone through every Seinfeld episode on DVR and the Food Network marathon can only go on for so long before I turn into one big pot of jumbalaya. So at this point, I really don't know where to go from here. Which leaves me with this question:
Curling anyone?
