Ok. So I asked for 6 of 7 on the trip and instead I got 3-4, including a 4 game sweep by the Phils and a 3 game sweep of the Braves. Can someone tell me what the hell is going on with this team? Cooper, i know you have no idea and I certainly don't.
Strangely enough I have an optimistic outlook heading out of what could have been a disasterous road trip. I mean, after losing those games to Philly the way they did there was not a thought in my mind that they would walk into atlanta and take the brooms out. Not only did they sweep the bravos but they did so by winning 2 games vs Hudson and Smoltz, with glavine securing his first victory in a head to head matchup against his old friend and future hall of famer.
It's amazing how much of a difference a few days can make in this game. This team was spiraling into the abyss as they boarded their flight to Atlanta, clinging to a 2 game lead. 3 days later they smack the hated braves upside the head and make them a non factor in the postseason race. Philly, as is tradition after gaining momentum, fall flat in Florida and drop 2 of 3 to the lowly Marlins, leaving them 4 games out. Way to keep that momentum going!
All in all things could be worse. The Mets showed some pride and head to Cincy with a bit of momentum and a guy named Pedro ready to take the hill. A solid outing tomorrow would make it 4 in a row and a chance to take 5 in a row for the first time all season. More importantly Pedro could provide that extra jolt of energy that this team could surely use down the stretch.
By the way, the Mets are the best road team in MLB with a 41-30 record. What? Really? This season gets stranger and stranger.
