The Playoffs Begin Tonight

What a crazy season.

What a sad ending so far.

What will happen over the weekend?

Well my friends..this is what we watch sports for...the thrill of victory or the agony of defeat. Unfortunately, we root for a baseball team that has been through a lot of agony.

Sadly, I keep thinking back to the 1998 season. I know the teams and situations aren't comparable as this epic collapse is record breaking and far more shocking, but I remember visiting Jayme up in Albany the final weekend of that 98 season and watching the final 3 games at her house. We faced the Braves (who else?) needing one win to force a 3-way wild card tie with the Astros and Giants. What is reminding me of this season is the way that team played to close it out. With 5 games to play, the were playing the Expos (see the similarities) and took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. But the infamous Armando Reynoso gave back those 3 runs in the 3rd and 2 more in the 6th and the Mets never won another game losing the next night to the Expos again and then 3 straight to the Braves over the weekend capped off with the great Greg Maddux beating Mr. Reynoso on the season's final day.

So you can probably see why blowing the 5-0 lead 2 nights ago with 5 games play started bringing back these sad moments in Mets history for me.

This club has little confidence right now, if any. Their savior pitched his ass off and they got 3 hits for him.

I will be in front of my TV tonight, tomorrow afternoon and live from Giants Stadium on Sunday rooting this team on.

Let's hope that they don't repeat that 1998 ending.

Root hard my friends.

The playoffs start tonight.

LETS GO METS!

Not only does this team have zero confidence (with exception of D. Wright who is still smakcing the ball and making plays in the field) but the fans at the game are not behind this team at all. You get your traditional clapping with two strikes but even that is muted. No confidence + no fan support = bad ending to a once promising season.
YA GOTTA BELIEVE!!
