Something To Cheer About..

Ok Giants fans. We all know that last nights performance by the G-Men was filled with ups and downs, mostly downs. On the upside, the Giant offense moved the ball up and down the field throughout the night and kept fighting back to give the team a chance. The downside is, well, answer this question: Can Jacobs, Eli, Osi, and Dockery all fit in the MRI machine at the same time? It seems like this franchise has compiled more injuries in the last 3 years (actually 2 seasons and 1 game) than any other franchise in history.

I'm going to move on, and quickly, b/c i just have to. So let's get to it.

Welcome back PEDRO!!! I was at Shea for Pedro's homecoming and while attendance definitely wasn't the 52,000 they are reporting, there was a nice crowd waiting to do what they haven't been able to do in almost a year. Stand up and cheer at the top of their lungs for the man some say may just have the "golden ticket". You could feel the energy in the stadium as they announced the starting lineups and then again when they took the field. If I had any hair it would have been standing up.

On this day pedro reminded us all why he is so important to this franchise. He reminded us why he is one of the greatest of all time. We all know Pedro isn't throwing 93mph-95mph and blowing hitters away anymore. He hasn't done that in years and he doesn't have to to be successful. Pedro went 5 strong innings (6 hits, 1bb, 4k's) yesterday and didn't allow a run after getting out of a jam to end the fifth. He picked his spots and worked on his offspeed stuff throughout the day. He threw his curve a little more and tested his arm a bit, hitting 91mph on the gun while tossing 92 pitches.

One thing that was noticeable and absolutely the most encouraging sign of them all was the amount of swings and misses Pedro was getting. His changeup was in midseason form making that not-so-great houston lineup look like they were swinging with their eyes closed. He threw his curve here and there and when he did it was pretty nasty, getting ooo's and aaah's from the Shea faithful. To add to it Pedro came to the plate in the 3rd inning and drilled a 2b over Carlos Lee's head in left and scored on a sac fly by Beltran.

Pedro walked off the mound when his day was done giving high fives and hugs to his teamates as he entered the dugout. However, this was not the last we would see of Pedro as the crowd stood and cheered endlessly until he came out for a cutrain call with both arms raised and fists-a-pumping. We can only hope to see many more curtain calls come October.

3 final thoughts:
- Guillermo Mota did not disappoint as he was greeted by Brad Ausmus in the 6th with a 1st pitch HR. Willie - have you been watching this guy? DFA sounds good to me.
- Fans at Shea gave Biggio a standing ovation prior to the start of the game when it was announced that this would be his final appearance at Shea. Good job sports fans!! Great career Biggio!!
- Press Release: Moises Alou CAN HIT A FASTBALL!!
