The Best Starter in New York

A frequent question I get is, "who starts game 1 of the playoffs (if there is a game 1) for the Mets?"

For some of the season, the answer was Ollie. At other times it was our Maine Man John.

But the reality is, the best starting pitcher in all of New York this season is amazingly Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez.

He currently sports a 3.05 ERA over 19 starts where he has gone 7-4. That ERA is nearly a full run better than any Yankee starter and nearly a half run better than Ollie and John.

Even more impressive however is his miniscule 1.07 WHIP.

Here is a list of the pitchers in MLB with a lower ERA that the old man's:

Chris Young 1.00
Johan Santana 1.05
(Jake Peavy is also at 1.07)

Amazing stuff for a pitcher who some reports claim to be nearing 45 years old.

Now let's see Duque continue this spectacular season and go out shut down the Bucs tonight!!

LETS GO METS!
